Clinical trial shows hypnotherapy just as effective as a low FODMAP diet

This randomised clinical trial by our very own Dr Peters (with Monash University) found that gut-directed hypnotherapy improves irritable bowel symptoms by 71%, the same as the low FODMAP diet and was more effective on reducing related anxiety.

2016

Hypnotherapy for irritable bowel syndrome shown to work in one thousand patients.

This article summarised the outcome of hypnotherapy for one thousand IBS patients treated with gut-directed hypnotherapy. Overall, 76% of the patients improved from the treatment, a significant response rate which is equal to that of a low FODMAP diet.

Clinical trial shows IBS improvements after 7 years post-treatment

This long-term follow-up study indicates that gut-directed hypnotherapy in IBS is an effective treatment option with long-lasting effects, with 73% having had their IBS symptoms improved up to 7 years later.

A pilot study found pre-recorded hypnotherapy was effective for IBS treatment

A 3-month study into home-treatment gut-directed hypnotherapy by Olafur Palsson found that it was effective in improving IBS symptoms and the improvements were maintained 6-months later.

Long term benefits of hypnotherapy for irritable bowel syndrome

This study by Peter Whorwell found that the beneficial effects of hypnotherapy appear to last at least five years, suggesting that it is a viable therapeutic option for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome.
